The starter on my Bukh DV24 has stopped working so I have a replacement. However, I cannot get the old one off so thought I would ask for advice before tackling with a hammer. I have moved the alternator out of the way and have removed the two fixing bolts. Looking at the new one, it looks like the old one should just now slide out. However, it seems stuck fast. Am I missing something in taking the old starter off? I'm feeling very close to taking the mash hammer to help so before I do can anyone suggest anything I should try first.

Thanks,

PP

Maybe just a wee bit of rust between the flywheel housing and starter flange. Some gentle persuasion to help maybe but do not hit the other end of the starter with anything big and heavy. A copper mallet is the best thing if you can borrow one or place some wood on the brush casing end and hit the wood with a hammer.

You may be able to get a screw driver between the flanges and lever carefully.

Don t forget to oil or grease the flanges afterwards when replacing.

There is a man on Turnhouse Road who does repairs to Starters and alternators however his hours are irregular as he also works offshore.
He is behind the Bosch service garage at the Maybury end.. (The Bosch Garage is Bosch mechanical and not electrical.)

2 bolt or three bolt. take a piece of hard wood and a lump hammer, place wood on the flange and hit wood, now do it on the other side, all your are doing is aiming for a slight twisting motion, then tap body of starter and it should fall out.
