I have just been discussing a rumour from my club on the East Coast that some of the Marinas down south have or are removing water hoses to avoid the possibility of being sued for any unspecified but possibly bacterial offences???.

I spent the summer mostly on the south coast and didn’t come across any.

Do any of you guys have information on the subject?

Pwllheli harbour up north (yes we boat up here too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) have removed all the hoses.

To be honest, in hindsight, I am happier using my own flat hose, at least I know exactly where it has been and what it has been used for.

The only downside, you can not use a jet wash with flat hose.

You can if incoming water pressure is high enough but if not the hose tends to be sucked dry by the jet wash, then you have to stop and wait for pressure to increase.

Hi dogwatch:
Thanks for info, do you have any idea why they removed them. Were they being stolen? or was it for fear of litigation? Do you have a number for them and I will give them a call and pose the question.

Thanks... Peter

Its Jobsworth H&S I am afraid. Last year Yarmouth took all their hoses away. There is still water on the pontoons but you need to carry your own hose. I guess they will all be following suit..... Sign of the times

My folks had their boat in Pwhelli when this happened (a couple of years ago now as I recall) - the marina said something about removing liability in case someone fills up their tanks with a dirty/infected hose which belongs to the marina!

'Where there's blame .... ' - ridiculous!

Hi Again:

I talked to Hafan Pwllheli, a lovely gurl who said they were directed by Welsh Water to remove all hoses from the pontoons or face a £5000 fine for each hose???
Their reason.... Yep. Possible bacterial attack.

Aparently they were the only marina in the area targeted by Welsh Water and are trying to get them back.

What a jobsworth world are we living in?.
