I use a Tohatsu 3.5 to power a 14' dinghy. I have often wondered whether it would be possible to use a larger remote fuel tank instead of the integral one. Does anyone know if this is possible? Many Thanks.
I have an old Tohatus 3.5 and the fuel delivery system is gravity fed. There is no fuel pump. I assume they are still the same.
Unless you are going to suspend your remote tank above the motor I think you may be on a loser there.
Unfortunately the carb type is wrong for a auxilliary tank. The Tohatsu 3.5 carb is simple and gravity fed - to 'suck' fuel you need a diaphram which is moved usually by crankcase pressure. I bought a 4hp twin cylinder Evinrude on ebay recently - that is a superb engine as it weighs little more than the Tohatsu and can use a remote tank.
