So, the other day I was trying to tighten up the packing nut on my stern gland, and in the process the little plastic tube for the greaser became detached. Unfortunately this was swiftly followed by a fairly steady trickle of water into the boat. I was quite surprised that the plastic tube had been holding back such as easy pathway for water to get in- perhaps I don't have enough grease down in the stern tube?
More pressingly, I cannot seem to reconnect the wee plastic tube. It fits into what looks like a very small copmression fitting, but the tube has no 'olive' or similar, so there is nothing for the fitting to grip, and it just pulls straight out, no matter how much I try to tighten it up.

Once I have checked sizes, I am tempted to buy a replacement from ASAP: http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine/electro-eliminators/greaser-tube-kit-with-fittings-807201 although that does seem a bit like overkill.

Thoughts?

go to your local Pirtek branch they will have the ferrels for the nylon tube

I have taken a few of these to bits over the years. Yes there should be an olive. You can get them on Ebay if your local gas/plumbers suppliers hasn't got any.
