remote controlled switch

So did you build the remote, or are you just pitching the idea of controlling anchor / deck lights with one? Cos I'm afraid the Chinese on eBay are way ahead of you on the former, and I'm already there on the latter :)

(I haven't actually installed my remote yet, but it's in the bits box and I will be fitting it in the next couple of months.)

Very cynical.

Not pitching anything.

This is worse than a YAPP because it sits in my car at night; I certainly do not wish to sell them as there is no profit in it.

I don't attempt to sell electrical things anymore and please note I removed my signature some time ago as I was only selling a torch and goretex survival suits and I sold more suits to light aircraft pilots than sailors, so switched my targeted market.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude.

I did assume you were looking to sell them because I thought that's what you do - sell sailing-related gadgets - and for the record I don't have a problem with that. Your post was a bit vague as to the purpose otherwise.

No worries,

I just think it is a nice neat little package.

Show us a video of yours when it is up and running if you like.

If you think that's vague, you should see his last thread!

Well I now know if I am in Spain I should be able to buy a lighter for pennies :)

I also now have (or by tomorrow) the slow match I need. No one seems to sell rope lighters in the UK new or old for £15 mark.

AND I can now make my own slow rope by simply soaking it in sodium nitrate, not to be confused with potassium nitrate that will burn somewhat -A LOT - faster.

Vague must be the new way of learning perhaps? :)

I couldn't see anything remote.... where is the switching taking place???

The clicking key fob was in my hand.

As prv says, you can buy the remotes on ebay easily.

I was proud of my little set up because I can simply plug it into a cigar outlet and with the orange switches (sort of like bus bars) EASILY and quickly plug in different things that I want to control remotley, be it a siren, light, er - whatever else you can think of. No soldering, crimping etc.

I have no use for this until I get a cruiser again - one day. Just the result of today's tinkering.

I can't really see the point of a remotely switched light.

If you are returning to the boat in the dark after an evening away from the boat then just leave your anchor light on - or a cabin light to identify your boat.

If arriving at your boat following an extended period at home (for example) surely you would have isolated the boats batteries before leaving the boat so how would you power the remotely operated light?

Seems like the application of technology for it's own sake and more complicated than necessary. KISS

When I said "sometime ago people were talking" I think it crops up in this thread:

Me, I prefer to stay on board at night and enjoy the peace and quiet.
