One for the electronics enthusiasts here. We have an electric headsail furler with a remote control facility. One of the remotes has packed up and I was wondering if anyone here could steer me in the right direction of a repairer please. I’m assuming that they may be variations of a garage door / gate opener ?

Thanks Alex, Aurel make the transmitter and Bamar are the furler manufacturer, unfortunately neither are repairers and Bamar don’t seem to sell replacement units.

Repair for such small item may be difficult. If local marine radio/nav. Equipment not possible. Local amature radio club type contact my be worthwhile.

Important thing is probably not the remote control, but the receiver/ control unit. I would guess that this is not built into the furler, but a separate box installed somewhere in the cabin nearby to the furler?
If the control unit is working, may be able to get a new handset and simply pair it up.
Otherwise, it might be easiest to buy a new receiver and handset combined?

PS. Does it control anything else as well - like bow thruster and/or anchor winch? If not, is that something worth considering?

I assume that the OP has confirmed that it is the TX and not the RX that is defective?

I have two handsets, one is working fine, as is the furler so my deduction is that the RX is fine but the TX handset has failed…it is a single use device, just for the furler.

Almost all problems with remote control transmitters are in the battery contacts. Check for contacts fixed and clean faying surfaces of contacts and battery. As a first step. ol'will
