I’d like to have a remote control for my Evo100 tiller pilot. The remote control ‘base station’ outputs Seatalk, whilst my boat is a combination of seatalkNG (tiller pilot components) and N2k (everything else). I recall reading somewhere that the S100 remote will work with my TP only via a seatalk to seatalkNG converter. Is using one of these converters straightforward (ie plug and play), or will this technophobe have to get involved with menu>system preferences>signal processing>select aardvark colour’ type stuff?

I have a st 4000 + wheel pilot, and recently added a s100 remote i got on ebay. It was a simple case of turning everything off, plugging the cable from the control box to the sender unit, via one of the 2 sea talk plugs (blanked off with a rubber plate) and turning everything on, it worked perfectly. I was worried when it arrived, as the plug was missing, and they have 3 wires, yellow, red and bare earth. But the back of the unit has the plug location coded with coloured dots. Initially i just fitted the wires directly via small individual connectors and it worked perfectly. I ordered the proper plug for long term use. I have not used it in anger yet, but in the marina it spins the wheel perfectly, and if yours uses a similar seatalk connection it should be as easy

But the OP does not have Seatalk. SeatalkNG is different.

Yes, by using a ST to STNG converter it will work with the S100 remote. I've fitted loads of ST to STNG converters and they are very straight forward to fit. Remove one of your STNG terminators and fit it into the convertor, then connect the converter to the backbone with a backbone cable. Connect the S100 receiver to the middle (yellow) port on the converter, job done.
