Reminder - SOL Leg 2 starts at 11:00

The polar is wrong so if you set the best VMG course it won't be the best even if it says so! Some of us found that out in the last Inport race. The polar in the new version is the correct one for this race.

I assume the weather updates are correct but I don't know.

I will be using the new version to find VMG but will be watching the race on the old client.
 
Thinking about it more, the boat speed on the old client may also be wrong so you could be going slower (or faster) than it says. I assume the boat speed is calculated from the polar.
 
will be there this time ( JOLINI) missed the last one by 2 weeks --still have 200 miles to go on leg one -- presume this will just be stopped as leg 2 starts?

Ok, so at least I can avoid hitting anything if not maximising the boat.

i suppose its better than nothing.

Can we not ask someone to update the polar in the client? I know they must be very impressed with their new wizzbang flash doodah but it cant be that hard to update the old software can it?
 
They are asking in the chat if the polar in the old client could be updated but they haven't had any luck yet.

I have just checked best VMG from the start. It's TWA 30 in the new version and TWA 45 in the old client. Quite a difference.
 
You can always ask one of us what the best VMG is likely to be for your boat at any particular time. It will be a little difficult as it changes with wind strength and we only know for certain for our boat.

As a guide, going downwind at the moment it would be about 140 (-140).
 
Cheers, I will see how I get on. I can at least get the web client at home, so it shouldnt be a total disaster.

When I started this I had no idea what a polar diagram was or did, so at least I am learning something /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I don't understand your readouts because looking at your track and the wind direction you should have a TWA reading of around 30.
