Fair enough that it's dangerous to be travelling amongst moored boats at that speed, and it's fairly objectionable behaviour, but I'm not convinced by the wash argument. A small craft up on plane produces less wash than a yacht doing 6 knots, as is evident from the lack of bobbing about in that video.

The film was taken by freelance sailing journalist Dylan Winter, who was on assignment, when he spotted the jet skis and turned his camera on them.

On assignment.... Genius!

I'm not going sailing any more, I'm on assignment!

“You can go on Ebay and buy a jet ski without any insurance or MoT certificates.”

MOT?

Yeah, I mean, like, the brakes might not even work, man . . .

I think he may have been trying to get over to a largely non-boaty readership the fact that there are no safety standards applied to sea-going boats. Different if you wanted to potter along a river within the speed limit, you'd have to have good brakes then! :D

Wash is not the issue. The rainfall from the ostentatious cooling water fountain is annoying. But as I row around between boats on the moorings (on Windermere) I'm just glad we no longer get numb-nuts riding around like that. They are blind to any small tender nosing out from behind any moored boat, and probably not looking for small craft anyway.

This is the reason I'll not be using my swinging mooring at Abersoch this year. Jet skis regularly use the moorings as part of their race course and my 11 year old son had a narrow escape when he was rowing ashore in the tender.

I think joe average public would expect them to be subject to the same rules as any other boating user .

Remember this so called land mark case?
2:01AM BST 06 Aug 2005

A jet-skier who nearly killed a father of two when he crashed into him was jailed for six months yesterday in what was believed to be the first case of its kind.

Mark Goodwin, 25, admitted being negligent in charge of a ship after the court ruled that a jet-ski could be classed as a vessel - technically the same as a tanker or cruise liner.

And of course more recently

Jet skis and powered surf boards

They are still not classified as vessels and so the idiot operators get away with it . The law is an ass!

Ass about tit I think! It aint you who shouldn't be using your mooring it's them that shouldn't be using the moorings as part of a race course!

One would have thought that a SI issued by the government, after deep and considered thought, stating "For the purposes of Enforcement of Maritime Safety Legistlation, jet skis, Personal Water Craft, shall be considered as ships...."

May be just that bit too simple!!
