Reids sewing machine

Hi

I am looking at buying a reid's sewing machine - it is second hand buy looks quite new - what is a reasonable price. What do they cost new?

You rarely see them for sale. I saw a tatty one once asking £175, I thought this was way over the top. They were expensive new, but I don't think they have been available for years. Brian.

Try a US site - http://www.sailrite.com/ who do sewing machines especially for sailmaking - but they are not cheap. If you have the space and don't need to use it on board then buy an old industrial sewing machines - plenty on ebay, but make sure it has a single phase motor - unfortunately not many will do Zig-Zag and straight stitch. or walking foot type which is the norm for sailmakers.
Also if you are tempted by the sh one you've seen - test sew a sample of the material you are thinking of using....... BEFORE you buy it.
