A windy g'day to you all!
Just got back from the boat, and as you all know it's been a tad windy lately. Whilst I was on board doing some jobs I noticed that the Rutland 913 wasn't charging, luckily it's just the regulator that's packed up, I know, I know, I should have tied the damn thing up but I live 50 miles from our swing mooring and couldn't get down in time.
So I need to buy a new regulator, well I was going to have to anyway because I'm planning to fit 300w worth of solar panels, I have two battery banks and would like these both charged via the regulator, does the forum have any recommendations as to a good quality regluator that can handle the solar and wind genny?

As close to around £100 would be my prefered budget......

Cheers,

Crispin.

Crispin,
I have just had a similar problem except it was my solar panels(I have 90w of panels but reg can only handle 50) which blew the reg.

I went to Marlec (www.marlec.co.uk) who have a range of regulators for Rutland kit and solar panels.

Sadly I haven]t fitted new reg yet so cant comment on efficiency. The old one has survived 3 years in Scotland and 2 years in Med, seriously overloaded, before it threw in the towel.

I've had good service from selectsolar.co.uk who have a good range of regulators.

Bear in mind that some people think it is not a good idea to regulate a wind generator. The thinking is that wind is gusty, so if you regulate it you cut out a chunk of the potential charge - especially if you have windgen which doesn't do much at slower speeds. Depends of course on the size of your battery bank, your wind generator, your solar panels, your location, your boat use etc. See the installation manual at kissenergy.com for more on this.

Following several strong recommendations here, I used Barden Energy Solutions - 01489 570770. They gave good, knowledgeable advice and their prices seemed to compare well with many on line.
