Hi Folks,

Im in turkey and would like a small moped, honda dax or yamaha chappy to get around on.
Im understood that it can be registered as "tender to"
to make it qualify for legal reasons.
Can any one help with this, any info would be great,
Also want to buy a bike, Im in Marmaris at the mo.
I do have a full uk bike license

Good evening:

I have seen a number of small mo-peds running around with a sign on the back in lieu of a license plate with the words "TT XXXXX" but think that this is basically illegal and used on mopeds that were purchased in other countries and maybe included on the transit log when entering Turkey.

From my experience with motorcycles and mopeds in Turkey I strongly doubt that you will be able to register one as "TT xxxxx". I suspect you will need a residence permit and end up with a Turkish registered machine.

If you get one registered, don't for heavens sake lose the paper work - it took me over 14 days and visits to half the offices in town to get a replacement including a new MOT even though the sticker on the license plate clearly indicated the MOT was valid until July 2012.

I'm fairly certain that to register a motor vehicle even as a foreigner, you will need a permanant address inside Turkey!
If you buy one of the latest electrical moped thingies, which I'm led to believe are quite good, this doesn't classify as a motor vehicle! problem solved.

Last year I was sat in Cafe du Paris in Nidri and watched a Brit sailor being hauled over the coals by a Greek policeman for riding his own moped without it being taxed/insured Etc. It was one of those mini mopeds, almost a toy, that he kept on his boat. Never did find out what the conclusion was though.

Pretty simple really. Either register your moped as a uK vehicle or as one in thecountry involved or run an illegal vehicle.

No such legal thing as "TT" for a vehicle - obviously.

Your choice.

How about considering a goped. Much simpler to carry onboard, and will do anything that your moped would / more cheaply. Some countries have no rules on tax /insurance for them, and the 12v version is even less restricted.
