The main saloon in the Seadog has two single berths, one each side. I have heard of the portside one being converted to a double. Anyone else done it or know of anywhere with pictures of such a conversion - I am planning on doing it and have some ideas how, but don't particularly want to reinvent the wheel.

Hi,
I have seen only one other Seadog with a Modified port saloon berth and I thought it spoiled the aesthetics completely and also ruined the clever functionality that Reg Freeman brought to this design.
e.g the clever saloon table was removed, the changed seating geometry rendered it most uncomfortable for use as seating, also the useful storage in the seat backs was lost and to some extent it was now longer a Seadog.

However the accepted place for the double conversion is to the port side of the aft cabin and this can be done simply

It might be worth your while posting your thoughts on the Seadog Owners association Forum.

The drawing for the aft cabin mod is available from the SOA.Membership is worthwhile and where every aspect of the Seadog has previously been discussed and posted, if it hasn't then all you need to do is post a question as some member will be able to help.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your suggestion, I already have the conversion in the aft cabin but this is now occupied by my daughter - it means she can go to bed and my wife and I can still use the saloon and the cockpit.

I have had a look at the owners association forum but posts are few and far between and there are no previous posts about this - I intend to do it this Tuesday ready for a few weeks away on the boat.

I don't see any benefit in moving the seat back as the gain in space is minimal. I am just considering making the table removable by altering the hinges and having a removable infill from the forward bulkhead to the aft one, utilising the starboard cushion for sleeping on. Everything can be returned to normal during the daytime.

I am looking at it as a development in the spirit of Reg Freemans clever functionality. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi,

I have a Seadog and have recently converted the port saloon berth to a double. Others have used the fill-in method that you suggest but we decided against that for a couple of reasons. Firstly it would mean finding storage for the fill-in when not in use. Secondly it would block access to the heads.

Our solution was to convert the saloon table such that it can be quickly lowered to the level of the port bunk and then to make a hinged flap on the forward port bulkhead, that stores upright against the bulkhead and lowers to 'complete' the bunk by joining to the lowered table.

The 'conversion' takes all of 30 secs and works a treat, although the 'double' berth can hardly be described as kingsize.
