Refurbishing or Replacing a Volvo Penta Tachometer

The Tacho on my VP 18 HP Diesel is on the blink.. It works erratically and there is condensation inside the glass, the seals are obviously well past their sell by dates .

I have the price from various suppliers and checked Ebay.

Do any Forumites knew of anyone who refurbished them ?
AND
Does anyone know wether any VP Tachometer will work on my engine providing its 12V and the connections are the same ?

Mine is exactly the same and I have found with mine that if you take it off and leave it in the airing cupboard overnight it is ok again. I've started to take it off over the winter layup as well. Worth trying with yours. I'd be interested if anyone has managed to easily waterproof one of these.

We added a Tiny Tack, very easy, not to expensive and does the job fine.

Thanks all.. Its in the airing cupboard if that does not work we might take the Tiny Tach route as a new one is nearly £200 !

How do you take it off?

My Tacho is housed in a panel with the starter button etc and the actual tacho can be removed quite simply once you have the panel out .

I havnt taken the actual tacho to bits to see if the seals can be renewed, but I <u>think</u> it would be possible as there ar 4 screws on the back and it does not appear to be a sealed unit.

But taking it to bits is a last ditch measure if all else fails.
