Hi,
We took our main sail out last year and are now struggling to find how the reefing lines should be refitted. In particular the end that comes out of the back of the boom then up to the reef cringle but then not sure where it goes?
Many thanks
S

It should go up through the cringle and down the other side. There should be some sort of eye to tie it off to, if not, and it's a loose-footed main, a bowline round the boom is a common way to make it off.

If neither is an option, I'd wander round a marina to see what similar boats do :)

How many reefs do you have? On Beneteau with two reefs, both should be single line. With a third reef, there isn't enough room in the boom, so the line only goes in the boom to the luff/reef 3 tack and then back down tied on the boom.

If it's reef 1 or 2, and it's single line, it routes from the cockpit to the boom, up to the reefing cringle and back down to a sheave in the boom, aftwards, then out the back of the boom and up to the respective luff cringle/tack then straight down to be tied onto the boom.

Reef 3, the line runs straight to the back of the boom, up to cringle and back down to the boom, the leech cringle is held with a clip or other means when reefed.

thanks - does it just knot around the boom? It’s not a loose-foot main and there is nothing on the boom to tie it too - confused!

My boat has 'eye fittings' on each side of the boom where the zipped slots are in the stack pack. These fittings are in a slot in the boom and can be moved to suit and then fixed in position. I also have both sail & stack pack in the boom slot. Works on my boat.

Here is the only photo I can find easily showing my stackpack and a reefing pendant. The blue rope on the left in the pic passes through the stackpack and around the boom exactly as shown in post #6.

It seems the current forum problems prevent the uploading of photos, so hope this works

My Oceanis 311 had stainless steel loops under the boom that the reefing line went through and retained with a jammer knot.
