I have a stern gland greaser in the form of a brass cylinder with a tap on the top that you sctew dowm a turn at a time to force grease into the stern gland. It is reasonably accessible.
Question is, how do you refill it?
Grease comes in a can, not a big toothpaste tube, it doesn't pour, you can't really spoon it in. How do you get it full then?

Also, which type of grease should I use?

Unscrew the tap fully, then grip the body of the greaser which should unscrew from its base. Most cans of grease have a disc with a hole over the grease, mostly for filling grease guns (an outdated concept I know :) ), which is used to fill the greaser - place greaser over hole and press, simples !

As above but if the body cannot be removed:

Unscrew the the "tap" fully. remove the top. cw with "tap"
Spoon, the grease in best you can trying not to trap too much air. I'd use a broad bladed spatula probably.
Clean up the mess and refit the top and "tap"

A suitable grease stocked by most chandlers is Ramonol white grease:

Mine is the type where the body unscrews. Unscrew the body, the plunger should be at the bottom. Using a tub of grease without the internal cover with hole, stab the body about and inch into the grease and wind back the plunger. The grease is sucked back into the body.
