Reference book recommendation

I've been looking for a good reference book which gives very detailed drawings and descriptions of the various names of all the different parts of a boat/yacht. If it also defined all the different types of sailing boats as well that would be even better.
I was at the Excel boatshow and rumaged through the various book stands but didn't find anything.
Can anyone recommend a good book to look out for that covers this?

Not sure that it covers all that you ask, but the Oxford Companion to Ships and the Sea is a start.

Because of the immense variety of sailing boats, both traditional [or evolved] and designed, it would require a set of volumes the size and cost of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica. The research alone would be several lifetimes work. Edgar March did a creditable job on the boats of the British coast, and Howard Chappelle did wonderful work on preserving details of American boats. Basil Greenhill wrote a book called, I think, "Sail and Oar Around the World", but he could do no more than mention a large number of different types of boats, especially the Asian ones. There are just so many different ways to build a wooden boat!

Thank you both for your suggestions. This interest was started when I noticed that two different people I was talking to about a boat were using the same terminology but meant quite different things.
As I could not be sure who was using the terminology correctly I thought I should get myself a decent reference book.

I picked a copy of 'complete amateur boat building' by Michael verney up at a car boot a while back

some good illustrations labeling the myriad of 'bits'

by no means comprehensive, but a good start

My copy of "The Oxford Companion to Ships and the Sea" arrived today from Amazon and it looks like it will be very useful, it only cost me £17 including postage so thank you for the recommendation. Hopefully later on I will get a chance to try some of the other recommendations.
