Still looking for advice as to how best to mount blocks to deck - do not have room for the Barton fitting.

What about eye bolts, pad eyes or eye nuts. With proper backing all of these will work.

If have a kind of eye on the deck and attach a normal block - it is sometimes necessary to "help" the block to stand up.
several options
- A spring between deck and block
- Wrap the connection with thin rope (sorry no pic now)
- A piece of hose can also work.
The loads you calculated came out on the small side - it's always good to do a sanity check on stuff like this.
It's better to err on the safe side. (and remember that WL - working load is less that BL - breaking load)
