I am referring to the skinny book which comes packaged with the almanac.

I tend to leave mine at home, and hardly read it, keeping the almanac on the boat. As such, I dont use it when at sea and considering a marina.

Anybody use it frequently ?

Reeds Marina Guide

I find it useful when the guide shows detailed pontoon layout. When arriving at unfamiliar marinas I like to know the layout of the pontoons before I get in - particularly at night. (This may be because Pleiades does not care for getting cornered in alleyways with no room to turn!) So if it is during hours when there are marina staff on the radio I call ahead and when they say go on a particular pontoon and number, if the guide shows where that is I can plan my attack better. When entering marinas in gales I have sometimes declined the offered berth and asked for one where I can approach safely from down wind rather than take something that I know will be a mare to get on or off.
Alternatively I suppose one could just buy a boat which is easier to park or fit an adequate bow thruster.......

Useful for marina layouts and just the right size for wedging under a table leg in the pub to stop the table wobbling.

I now own my very first copy having bought my first almanac. As someone with experience of only a handful of marinas around the Solent, I think it's very handy for seeing the layouts of marinas I shall be visiting in the future.

Exactly what Pleiades wrote. Try calling up a marina, knowing aforehand the probable tidal flow and berthing layout and being able to cherry pick a suitable visitor berth..saves tedious VHF/mobile descriptive banter too.

Takes all the fun out of blind manoeuvring in a tidal cul de sac tho!
