Reed's loose-leaf almanac refill, good offer.

tried loose leaf for 2 years never again not even for a tenner book more than worth the extra

Now he tells me - when I've just bought one. :(

What was it you didn't like?

Seems to me that the advantages are :

1] being able to have it stay open at the right page

2] being able to chuck out all the stuff about places I will never visit

3] being able to take a page on deck when finding the way into a strange port

4] somebody gave me a free binder last year :D

I found that the leaves tear so esy even after I spent ages sticking rings on pages(then to big for binder if you do more than a few pages ) and If you dropit :o :o pain to sort pages out . If you want to split it The 3 ring binders hard/ near impossible to get . The book is so easy

Admitted opening flat is good . But the page s of the loose leaf are so weak they need to be 3 times stronger for hard use

Ok for light use

Nah Is only MHO If you bought a bargain will still be a bargain: mind you I notice it's only an update pack

Edit might be worth getting a cheap laminater from alde or lidl when they have em in about a a tenner to laminate most used pages for on deck plus some of them loose leaf plastic holders to stick
the odd one in

I think WH Smith's also do a good price on the bound edition £26.95 post free (or collect from your local store).

I'm not absolutely sure but I think that's cheaper than any I saw at LIBS

Like Fergie_Mac66, I soldiered on for two years before I could bring myself to admit that the loose leaf version's disadvantages greatly outweigh the advantages.

Yes, you can take out all the pages you think you won't be using - East Coast, Channel Isles etc., but it makes precious little difference to its awkwardness to handle. It's too big for a bookshelf, so when it's not cluttering up the chart table it's occupying a seat in the saloon or perching precariously on top of the CRT radar display.

Staying open at the page you want is its both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness - just try closing it in a hurry. And more often than not you want to flick back and forth between different sections: with the book format you can put in multiple markers and open it at the chosen mark instantly, whereas with loose-leaf you are forever trying to persuade the leaves to move along the binder bars in an orderly fashion, without tearing any pages out.
