Well 2 months ago I was made redundant. I decided that I would do what all the youngsters do and have a gap year/few months. The only difference is I am doing it at the age of 54 lol

I am using the time to do lots of jobs around my house and garden and also at my Mums. Yesterday I decided to do a few boatey jobs and washed my little rib and am also refurbishing the trailer. I thought I would start on my smallest boat

Next I am going to make a removable extension to the rear seat on the little rib so that her indoors has a little more space when we are both in the boat. I am also refurbishing the little prop.

Inspired by the thread about the reversing camera I just fitted one in my Discovery also

Now that more of winter is behind us than in front of us (in the UK) I was wondering what you are all up to on your boats. Lets all post our ideas to encourage each other

This could be a VERY long post ! We started discussing the pre-season list this morning - think it was because the sun was shining. So starting with the nearly smallest first :

RIB we use as a tender - order and fit new engine lift ; haul out, transport home and fit all the goodies (rubbing strake, extra handles etc) we bought 2 years ago and still haven't fitted

Main boat - fit new loo to forward heads ; fit new perspex to forecabin hatch, replace foam and cover new cushions ; clean decks (especially rubbing strake while we've still got access to a hose at our winter berth - prevent marks on hull) with Wessex (see thread on PBO about cleaning outside teak - interesting) ; varnish interior ...

and that's just for starters.

A bigger query - if you make a pre-season list, what percentage of those jobs do you get through before you go off boating for the season ? :)

I'm inspecting the boat after the strong winds a few weeks back,
and preparing / taking measures for the jobs to be done by my friends in marsh:

- installing the new level indicator display, for fuel, water and blacktank
- Installing the japa (i-Phone passerel remote)
- re-installing a pump that I have refurbished / new seals and all that
- re-installing the work bench above the genny, after they did service on a genny (starter moter take out and back in)
- some cosmetics in E/R and Crew cabin
 
This morning I was all prepared to swap out my existing anchor for a new Delta I have but found myself sitting in the cockpit snoozing. (Long week at work). I have postponed pre season works till next week. :sleeping:
 
Just got in from Mercury, today has seen me:-

Final primer coat to hull and drives, now ready for antifoul.
Replace fuel filter on Webasto.....It now works!!! I'll be warm next weekend!
Replace pump for heads shower.
Make template for small area of teak decking that needs to be replaced.
Call at Waitrose and buy wine!

Relaunch in 5 weeks...........Can't wait!
 
Spent today doing a cut and polish, Farecla G3 followed by some Meguiars high gloss :-)
Only needed the one cutting as the hull wasn't too bad.
Last week was the second coat of antifouling. Hempel's finest.
Week before was the the hull preparation plus first coat of Hemel.
All set for the lift in, in a couple of weeks :-)
 
First day working on boat after lift out last weds. Soaped and power washed the whole boat including the non slip decking so now looks clean except for some minor marks. Also removed some of the gear from the boat but need to remove about another lorry load :rolleyes: Also cleaned the underwater gear.

Tomorrow weather permitting I will start polishing the hull and sand down the undersides ready for anti fouling.

Hi Bart, just been reading and enjoying some of your (and others) old cruise reports from years ago, it was a great idea to bundle them all together into the pinned thread. Cheers...

great idea that cruise report thread indeed, with a index post it would be even better
 
I too am fitting a reversing camera to the Raymarine C80 on the flybridge. If all goes well, will fit a further one or two in the engine room so I can see everything is ok without unscrewing the table, carrying it into the cockpit, lifting up the carpet, floorboards, and insulation!
