Its probably worth getting back on to your MP too, pointing out that the Govt agreed that taxing marine diesel at road fuel rates is a bad idea. Throw in a bit about "who runs our country then?" for good measure /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Anything that can be done to 'persuade' the govt to take seriously the idea of only going to the minimum rate as required by the EU. See the latest.
After reading all the threads, over many months, gleaning as much information as I can from wherever I can - this latest seems to imply that no extra duty for another 12 months ?
-or have I got that bottom about nose ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Nope, you're absolutely right. To enact the change, the Government needs to institute primary legislation, which means all sorts of studies and consultations will need to go before it.
These are not expected to begin until sometime next year. This is all kosher in the EC's eyes, as they said in their rejection of our derogation that a transitional period would be allowed.
The Government isn't going to hurry to outlaw red diesel because a, it's a huge headache, and b, they're not going to make any money out of it in the long run.
I did think there was a panic buying mentality at my marina last Sunday - one boat after another, including yachts - which is very unusual to say the least !
this is a sample of what is generally thought about this orginasion, i have been a continious member since 1974.
what with comments like this & the derogation fiasco, who are the R.Y.A working for, members or the "Non Contributary" pension holders, Government
Just looking up the dictionary meaning of the word "yachting" as in "Royal Yachting Association" - having difficulty reconciling it with the not so yachty image on the front page of the RYA mag (above)..
Such publicity leads one to wonder just how all those cautious and even cynical civil servants, eurocrats and officials that the RYA has to influence and lobby actually regard the RYA - perhaps representing less the thousands of yachting / sailing types enjoying the natural elements (very PC, of course) than
the seekers of testosterone thrills gained at the expense of lots of emissions (rather less PC)
I wonder how hard the civil servants really fought to keep our Red diesel exemption? Mano a mano!
