Red Funnel Captain in "is a bit arrogant" shocker...

How can you do the same trip 6000 times and remain sane ?

Colourful response . I think they need to put him on a new route.

Wow, wow, wow !!

So he hit a boat, almost killed 4 people, then as reported by the IoW County Press commented:
"I don't know what to feel guilty about. I'm as good as it gets. I'm the dog's badoodahs out on the Solent."

US Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once wrote:
"Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman."

So true, now we can all know him by our own personal two-word expression ;)

I'm sorry if this sounds stupid - but didn't the mobo see something large and red coming towards it?

From the article linked in the OP:

"The court heard yacht owner Mr Jackson has since received a caution for failing to keep a good lookout on the Solent, but a prosecution was not brought as he was not a professional master. "

and from the MAIB report

Phoenix’s owner was 56 years old and had purchased the motor cruiser in 2016. He had owned several boats previously and had been boating in the Solent since 2001. The owner did not hold any boating or marine qualifications and had no knowledge of local regulations and guidance. His understanding of the COLREG’s11 was limited to an awareness that vessels approaching from behind were required to keep clear.

This was discussed on a thread here a few months ago and the MoBo owner was seriously at fault and there were some extenuating circumstances on the side of the Ferry as there was an element of being dazzled by the sun.

But having read the above I take a less generous view of the Ferry's actions than I did at the time

I don’t like the prosecution of mariners incidents. I believe it does little or nothing to prevent accidents.
I read the MAIB report when it came out.

The Man is a Hazard to Navigation. Put him out to pasture it will make the Solent significantly safer.
The Chief mate who was on the helm. Was just as much a Hazard having learned from this pillock.
Not hard to figure out why there has been a spate of incidents with Red Funnel.

Red Funnel should replace their Bridge Teams with a few RYA Day Skipper Graduates from a nearby training centre.
At least they would get of their arse to look out the windows.

I am not sure if you are being flippant but if not I think you are misguided in your conclusion.

The Red Funnel skipper has safely done 6000 crossings in this congested part of the Solent and now has an accident which is by no means entirely his fault. He had considered the situation of the motor boat a few minutes before they hit and decided there was no risk of collision, for a number of reasons he got it wrong this time. I think we should accept that accidents will happen and learn from them, not hang people out to dry or remove them from their jobs. This unnecessary prosecution is a disgrace and shows how foolish the MCA has become. Common sense has left the room.
