Saturday morning on Hill Head beach I saw a red hand flare out near East Bramble bouy. Rang 999 and got put through to Portland CG. Solent CG rang me back and told me they already had a vessel alongside the vessel in distress. Later from the sailing club telescope I saw a trimaran being towed in upside down.
Hopefully nobody hurt. Anyone else hear about this?

Sunday morning, staff at Hamble Point, turning tri the right way up, said it had pitch-poled while under kite...
No injuries as far as they knew...

The first number the 999 operator tried was ringing for a long time. (Probably because Solent were busy dealing with a red flare.) Then the operator came back on and said they were transferring me to another number. Portland took all the details and said they would pass them on to Solent. Solent rang me back within 5 minutes so generally I think it was all working pretty well.

Yeah, it was a tri racing in the Clarkson Cup on Saturday (Royal Southampton Yacht Club). They had the kite up at the time and flipped in 5m of water so lost the rig too. Crew alright tho.

Francis Drake never rang 999 when he got into a predicament, he just got on with it - then again, he was probably a good sailor.
