I want to buy, for personal reasons, a really top quality sewn red duster. Anyone suggest a source? Chandlery ensigns just won't fit the bill.

Proper ShipsChandlers ...

Find out from some friendly Ships Agent / Port worker where your nearest SHIPS Chandler is ....... they will have the 1 mtr Lifeboat ensign - that is a proper SEWN bunting job ...... in fact I have one pinned to my office wall behind my desk !! All faded and looking very good !!

But I have seen them in Marine Super Store, Port Solent and other places - so they are available. Phone round ????

I've had no problems buying good quality sewn ensigns from chandlers - avoid the cheap printed variety

Ebay occasionally has sewn ensigns... no idea of quality.
I had a well worn sewn example and left it on my last boat. Had to buy a cissy printed one from the chandlery.

Re: Proper ShipsChandlers ...

Thanks for the replies one and all. As you can probably guess I could only find the wretched printed ones in the yacht chandlers round here.

we have been buying proper sewn ensigns fromhttp://www.flagmakers.com/home.asp for a number of years now, and have found them to be muchf better than chandler quality. they also do flags to your own design if you fancy a nice house flag.

So what\'s so wonderful about sewn?

I know this rather like admitting to liking McDonalds or not being able to tell UHT milk from fresh - but I have never understood the preference for sewn ensigns. They are heavy in just the wrong place and don't fly out half as well as printed ones. Admittedly there are cheap printed ensigns around that fade very quickly, but there are cheap sewn ones that fall to pieces. Give me a good quality printed ensign any day!

Are there any more closet P.E. lovers out there who are prepared to 'come out' too?
