Red diesel - YM scaremongering?

Bloody bureaucrats still messing up our holidays!!
Can't afford €550 fine whatever the (unbelievably complicated/idiotic) reasons behind it.
Still don't know where liveaboards stand who are allowed to fill but pay reduced duty for cooking/heating purposes.
As far as I am concerned, until someone in a government/the EU states there is no issue, and all the Customs/Douane agree with it, I'm not able to go back to Holland or Belgium as I am not risking my hard earned cash to fund some bizzare fine about the colour of the fuel that is not even related to the duty paid and where!!
It's all bo11ox as I am getting sick of summer holidays to the South Coast of the UK sitting in Gosport in the rain........I would rather be eating moules and drinking Leffe etc

I got boarded in Ostend last summer. They guys had a form full of tick boxes. We were pleasant and offered coffee (why not, we're on holiday!) and answered all their questions. They asked everything... flares in date? name of home port on stern? VHF license? oars for dinghy? Lead line? They took my word for most of it, and they very pointedly avoided the question of what colour fuel I had in my tank. What sort of fuel, yes, but what colour? No.

My view is that they want to be seen to be doing their jobs, but they don't want to chase off tourists without a good reason. Fair enough. I would go back.

'name of home port on stern' since when did this become a requirement, and what is the punishment for not complying !!????

Shocked of Fambridge :-)

AFAIK it is only a requirement if you are Part I registered, but perhaps the Belgians think differently?

Just wondering what exactly constitutes a "home port " is the river you sail on regularly , the place where your mooring is or something else ? , what if a boat owner changes moorings/ marina half way through the season? , I have nothing on my stern except the name of vessel so might be in trouble !

Also a lead line was mentioned - who carries one these days ?? Just curious really ...

The form with the tick box`s is an old one Mercator devised & is still in use

Don't over-think it. As long as there's something no-one cares.
We have Gent (Ghent) on our stern.
Boat's never been there - and it's highly unlikely we'll ever go there.

We carry one - as I discovered last week-end. First thought was it was some of my youngest fishing gear.

As sailorman said: the check-list was devised by Mercator and no-one really thought of updating it.
They're just going through the motions. Unless you get arsey, nothing will come of it.

Only 'legal' requirement for SSR is name and reg no. SSR are not registered to a port.

Dont like their chocolate or their beer so yet another reason to by pass Belgium at a distance >12nm

If they dont want tourists and the money we bring they only have to say!! Not taken my own boat there since 2004 and by the looks of things no reason to change.

Tempting - but not biting.

Home port on stern - required in UK for part 1 - required everywhere else in the EU for every yacht.

Probably... And if I hadn't, he probably would have said that same as he did when I said I didn't have a lead line: you should. I could argue the point either way, but I've never heard anyone claim that arguing with customs officials is a productive pass time.
