Red Diesel - the definitive article

Are you sure?? looks like 70p here:

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, absolutely sure. Look:

[ QUOTE ]
Domestic calculation (ie 40 per cent)
40 litres @ 0.70ppl = £28
VAT @ 5% = £1.40
Domestic Total = £29.40

[/ QUOTE ]

So thats 70p/litre + 5% vat.

Well they can't add up either then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif based on 74ppl it should be 103.3ppl. The HMRC example of 70ppl was 99.1ppl.

[/ QUOTE ]

The HMRC example was based on 73.5p/litre (70p/litre+VAT).

Ok sorry, get it now HMRC didn't include the vat in the 70ppl. So with current prices you have to deduct vat first then add the new duty and recalculate. I'll get me pointy hat.

ok as a seller i understand it as...

Diesel price likely to be between 112.36p and 116.46p to the end user based on current bulk costs

[/ QUOTE ]

Is this for 100% propulsion? If not, then you need to find a more competitive bulk supplier, or reduce your excessive margin, 'cos that's a full 20p a litre more than the cheapest sources.

I think that the price at the pumps is going to be based on 60:40 with the possible option of 100% higher rate. So the scenarios will play out like this:

Mobo 1 bimbles up to the fuel dock and takes on 500 litres. Skipper signs 60:40 declaration and pays accordingly.

Mobo 2 arrives. Fuels up and skipper says. I think I use about 10% for domestic use.

Fuel dock hand says: Oi. You can pay 97p and sign the 60% declaration or 120p and reclaim.

HMRC would not make the statements they have about 60/40, if they had the remotest intention of prosecuting anyone who claims it. I can't think of any marine diesel craft that doesn't at least charge the batteries from the engine, so no-one has to pay more than 60% propulsion, full stop.

I think that is EXACTLY right.

MDL has written to bertholders and said that based on a price of 74p/litre than it will be 99.1p/litre from November 1st (and the 10% discount for bertholders will apply on top of that).

I wish MDL would equalise their fuel price across all marinas including the Thames. Fuel price came down to 85p on the Thames this weekend when Hamble was 74p before discount. Brent crude is 78$ a barrel. Fuel price should be nearer 55p.

I know it's been raised before but why cant MDL have just one fuel buyer for all marinas.

I know John Eades reads this forum, so what about it John?

Ah, but you have to remember MDL only use super dooper extra refined vintage shell diesel which is at least 100% better than anyother marina supplies, so actually by only charging you a 10% premium they are doing you a big favour.

It's true that the Thames marinas sell ULS which I'm told carries a premium. I have found whatever grade I use my engines still smoke. I think when my Perkins were built ULS didn't exist. So I would just like the cheapest as I think would most other boaters.

I see here YM have used the HMRC example but quoted it based on a "pump" price of 70ppl not 70ppl+vat as it should be, it will be interesting to see the variations in price around the marinas come 01/11 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
