Red diesel - the case remains open

My home supplier currently has 28 sec Heating Oil @ 60p/l, and Red Diesel (35 Sec) @ 68.5 p/l, inc VAT for domestic comsumption. My Marina sells full rate red @ £1.46, and reduced rate red @ £0.785. (£1.19 @60/40)

Our local community buys their fuel as a consortium so we get up to 30,000 litres as a bulk order
Perhaps you can do this as it is worth the 5 p if you get on with your neighbours

I alway thought that heating fuel and engine fuel had a different burn rate.

Heating is 28 second and engine fuel is 35 second........ Or is age confusing me ???

Burning heating fuel won't provide the same power as engine fuel, mind you I don't think you would notice that in a dumper truck.
Tom
A 20 hp dumper engine gets pushed a lot harder than a 20 hp boat engine i suspect having a lot more throttle movements.
I never really noticed much difference in power & a couple of percent power loss on a boat could easily be offset by keeping a clean hull

I do not get your drift here.
Are you saying that the EU want to tax heating oil as well or are you saying that they think we are using household fuel to power our engines?

Neither - well, not explicitly. The current EU complaint is that HMRC are allowing marked fuel to be sold to applications for which it is not approved provided that the full tax rate for unmarked fuel is paid. This then means that the tax inspectors cannot distinguish between fuel that has been legally purchased and fuel which is being misused since under HMRC rules it is perfectly legal for us to have red diesel in the tank that is connected to the engine.
