I am off for a week of sailing next weekend.

The plan is to first go to Calais via Ramsgate, but then I have the option to either turn right or turn left.

Turn right will take me towards Dieppe and maybe a bit beyond before turning back.

But turn left, and I could visit ports in Belgium and Holland before turning back which is attractive as I can then say that I have sailed to three different countries, which would be a first for me.

Before deciding, has anyone had any red diesel problems in Belgium or Holland this year?

I am on a mere 26ft sailboat with just a small tank of the stuff, not a 40m superyacht.

You will not have provided you do not carry any red in cans. You should have no problem filling cans with white from a garage provided you clean them first. Then once you have topped up your main tanks in france or belgium when you arrive top the cans up with local fuel and keep the receipt.
i have to admit that i have never had a fuel inspection in ostend or anywhere else inspite of being there when the belgiums were aledgedly making a fuss about fuel. I have spent many weeks and had many customs visits in all 3 countries.

fill up over there at the first opportunity, even put some white in cans, job`s a good-un

Not experienced problems in either Belgium or Netherlands. Did have customs aboard in Netherlands (Terneuzen) last month. Very affable. Only wanted sight of a passport and VAT papers.

Miserable acrobats ( scroats) did me for €750 for red diesel in the tank! Very affable they were as they gave us an armed escort to the cash machine in town around midnight to get the cash or have the boat Sussex (seized)

Still like Terneuzen, kept the boat there for a couple of years.

We’re the RYA any help? A real question, I wondered whether their legal dept. had any influence.

No problems - in Ostend in May and police checked passports but no worries about fuel. Where and when did you get fined Gwylan? The Belgian official line since last year's ministers meeting is that they are not enforcing anything...?
