The tax exemption on marine diesel should be abolished. The tax impost on fossil fuels should reflect their finite nature and their environmental impact. Those of us who use modest quantities will be able to absorb the increase in cost easily. those who use large quantities should be penalised. While they are at it, thery should also remove the exemption for aviation fuel.
well just tell all that to the Septics, they consume a quarter of the worlds petrol /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Oh god, I'm agreeing with a Tory, even if you are spouting LibDem policies.
I don't like to break it to you but your leader is attempting to get large electoral gains from adopting the policies which have kept Ashdown, Kennedy etc. on the moral high ground but safely down in third place.
You did forget to mention that fuel duty for domestic cars is also way too low, thus allowing millions to buy bigger cars and drive just because its a lot quicker, instead of using public transport.
There's a wonderfully insane logic to that. Fewer taxes so fewer rulemakers, fewer bureacrats, fewer accountants, fewer collectors...and a much quicker solution to the problem, as the surviving parts of the world's population would have to just get on with it as oil runs out.
If it wasn't for the abundance of coal then I'd be bizarrely tempted to agree.
Isn't politics wonderful - Labour steals Tory clothes so Libs promptly nick redundant Lab clobber. Tories nip round the back while no one's looking and have it away with the Lib-Dem schmutter
I'm quite happy to steal other peoples clothes if it suits my purpose, in good, traditional Tory style. My objection to the red diesel concession is essentially selfish. I can easily afford what would be a modest increase in costs, and it might drive some of the ill-bread oikes who charge round in high-powered motor boats off the sea, which would be a good thing.
Maybe its the Solent but can SlowlyButSurely and StugeronSteve explian what is wrong with 'petrol powered boaters'. This petrol powered boat user is very happy with his Yamaha 9.9's which are a asset when the wind fails.
As regrds red diesel, I will support its use in leisure craft when I can buy red petrol.
The "petrol powered boats" I was referring to are RIBS and jetskis, which are regularly driven in the Solent around anchorages and up and down rivers with absolutely no regard for other sailors, safety or speed limits, or even each other.
We were knobbled by their photographer whilst filling our S41 at Port Solent and asked a few questions as to how the derogation, if it happens, would affect our boating. Haven't seen PBO yet - did we survive the editors pen?!
Apologies for any offence caused. The petrol power boater, to whom my post was directed, is a certain jhr (friend, fellow Beaulieu River man and crew mate for the Cherbourg jolly). Hence his rather swift, somewhat pithy, and totally unwarranted response. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
"Mr 'Mad Dog' Mike Nicholson, former World Rally Champion (Vauxhall Ventura Division), when asked his opinion of derogation, said "Wazzat, you'll have to speak up, can't hear a damn thing without headphones. Ethel, Ethel, What's he saying Ethel. Oh Derogation. No thanks, I'm a protestant, myself. Now eff off young man and let me get on with smuggling red diesel over to France."
Did I really say that? Don't remember, probably 'cos I was as high as a kite following another successful drugs run.....oh well, it's no wonder they didn't print my comments then.
