After following the red diesel saga in the UK, I have to report that several weeks ago the government here in Norway decided to pull the same stunt, after a barrage of emails from boaters and boating organisations the government backed down after only 6 weeks of protests so dutyfree diesel continues.
Admittedly it wasn't driven by stupid EU regs just the government trying to make an 'honest buck' !!! But the people won which is the main thing.
Shall I send some Vikings over to kick Bliars/Browns and the rest of the muppets arses.

Invasion of the Vikings .... rape and pillage ... bring back the good old days! ... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Some of us are already here and working the issues /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .... reinforcements are always welcome ....., but please do not send any of the local football team players, as they seem to be struggeling enough on home ground... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

A few months ago we had the Viking village here for a week,, demonstrating their way of life and their batle abilities in Peel Castle.... maybe we should have bribed them to stay with some Danegeld...... and they could 'persuade' the manx gov to do the same as your lot.
On the other hand of course there is something about paying Deangeld which might be a tad more expensive than a price hike in red diesel.....
And there is an election soon here,,, so we shall see,,,

Drew.

Can you imagine the future, sunshine beating down and a poilce boat pulls behind you can i dip your tank to check for red diesel sir. Its ok for the Goverment to put a law in place but it could never be inforced they cant inforce it on diesel vehicles on the road how would they cope with boats.

They could not enforece it.
Vat is a crude weapon.
Duty means either different fuels or a licence to show to prove duty exemption or another claim back system ..... all routes cost and will be messy.

All for what? to make us the same as the rest of the EU on fuel BUT then why not do that with the biggest item - road fuel. Its all a mess and common sense has gone.

I think I will take a leaf out of the prisoners book and claim compensation for the diesel fuel stress I have suffered over the last 12 months ..... its inhuman to do this to boaters and I am sure some civil rights legislation somewhere will agree.

I agree Paul
Why can lorry drivers enter this country with half price fuel and force the Uk Transport companies out of business if we are trying to stay in line with Europe than why dont the Govement match the Tax on fuel in Europe !
Its Greed from a Govement who have overspent and look for any way to make a quick buck. What will be next a tax disc in the window of your boat, tolls on rivers, congetion charge on busy rivers/ports.
Its a mess !

Shhhhhhhh, Christ, they may be watching. If they'll steal a reason to go to war from the internet, you can bet your last pound they'd not think twice about nicking a tax idea.

Careless talk costs lives, er, tax!
