Anyone else go out to see the Red Arrows over Sandown Bay - for the White Air festival? We were anchored quite a way out, just around the corner from Whitecliff Bay and it felt like they were using us as a turning point. More photos to follow, but this gives the impression of how close they felt as they turned (and barrel rolled) directly over us.... (Click for larger version - not quite as sharp as I'd have liked, but given the conditions, not too bad)

Stunning display from these guys as always.

When they had finished, they exited to the West and flew right over Cowes - with smoke - a great sight!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We saw them heading to Cowes earlier on (midday-ish) and I thought they were due at Sandown around 2pm. So there we were at 2pm, under the cliffs saying "Hmm, normally pretty prompt on their timings - wonder where they are .........christ!" as they dropped over the cliffs above us and "Smoke On"...

We were there, boat on the right of Rick's first picture in his second post.

Rick you could have hung around and given me a tow, my Stbd gearbox went, took hours to get back to Portsmouth against that tide....

Next post to Col I think!

Great show they put on for us, excellent pictures.

Hi - sorry to hear about the gearbox! Did it occur just as you reached us 'cos I thought you slowed then. Not sure we could have towed you much faster than you went on the single engine anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It was a truly excellent show - no-one does it like them. The formation was pretty tight and it was a little sphincter clenching at times - particlarly when they came out of the formation barrel roll pointed directly at you!!

Rick,

Yes it did and made a horrible noise and the boat shook like mad as the gears were still catching every now and then. I thought it was the engine that Col has just rebuilt (sorry Col).

We got some great pictures but I don't know how to post them and yours are just as good if not better.

Never mind, its only money, anyone want to buy a used Corniche....

They definitely do like to use stationary boats that are well out from shore as fixed point. Some years back when they had the festival of the sea at Portsmouth, a few of us had just left Portsmouth, and we stopped outside the main channel to watch.

They were using us as their fixed point, as every formation went directly overhead. Fantastic
