Recreating Deck Pattern

What's the best way of remoulding an anti slip? I've been considering using latex, plaster of paris or gelcoat to take the impression so what's best there?
After that how does one recreate the pattern and how do you stop the new gelcoat overflowing onto the surrounding surfaces?

For anyone not reading the whole of that thread - it might be worth stressing that there are 2 kinds of PVA - and one of 'em isn't a release agent !
