Hi there,

I'm looking for recommendations on a good marina for an overnight stay in Cowes, IOW. I've seen a few places online, East Cowes Marina and Cowes Yacht Haven but not sure if they're any good? I've got a 19ft sports cuddy, so need a sheltered inside berth that isn't going to be subject to constant wash from other boats. Also somewhere that is handy to the pub would be an added bonus

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!

Thanks a million

East Cowes is great! Pub right on your doorstep (a nice one with good food) and the shower/toilet facilities are superb.
L
:)

In addition to the two mentioned, Shepards Wharf, next to the Yachthaven, the Folly pontoons and the lovely Island Harbour up river a couple of miles. Pubs a plenty.

Our favourite marina is east cowes however the best located marina for being walking distance from the town is Yacht Haven - there are some protected berths in Yacht Haven - there is a water taxi from east cowes marina into town

East Cowes and ask them if they have an inside residents berth available in the pool down on P or Q pontoon. You'll get next to no wash and the Lifeboat pub on the marina or water taxi into Cowes.

Just spent the weekend at East Cowes.
Friendly marina staff, great showers, good pub and Sally water taxi £4 return to sample the delights of Cowes.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. Really like the sound of East Cowes, as long as we can get an inside berth.

Also like the sound of Yacht Haven, are the visitor berths all outside on the river?

No, many right inside. With a 19' boat I am sure they will tuck you in somewhere, but avoid if there is any sort of function going on, e.g. This weekends Cowes-Torquay-Cowes Powerboat race.

The Folly seems to be suffering from a serious Wasp problem at the moment.
I'd steer clear temporarily until things settle down.

There's a wasp problem everywhere at the moment, couldn't get away from them anywhere around the Solent last week.

The folly is special at the moment - not less than 10 at a time during our meal on saturday and my wife was stung twice. 4 were dead in her salad when she gave up eating it. Inside eating only there really.

Bugger the wasps....I'd steer clear of the salad!!:eek:

or a free ride on the chain ferry after a 15 minute walk from the marina. The emphasis on washlessness (great word:cool:) in this thread is important. As previously posted, we were on berth in the Yacht Haven towards the outside on a calm day and I couldn't believe the snatching on the warps and the banging as the pontoon was slammed against the retaining piles - heaven knows what it's like in a breeze

There have been a lot of northerly and north easterly winds this year which have made the Yachthaven and Sheppards uncomfortable, I would steer clear of both unless the winds have south or west in them.

Problem with winds with a South and a West in them is that they normally have a load of rain in them too !

I've only ever been sea sick on the boat once...... And that was whilst berthed at CYH on a bad night...... Don't ask, swmbo still takes p1ss to this day!!

It's a great place for a lunch time stop but with your request for shelter, East Cowes is the better bet.
