I'm just about to buy my first boat (always chartered before). It's a 30 footer and I'd like to keep her in Chichester for now.

There are quite a few jobs that need doing, some of which I can do myself (e.g. sanding, varnishing, general fettling) and some of which I can't (minor GRP repairs, checking/replacing rigging, replacing fuel tank). I want a walk-ashore berth for two or three weeks whilst I do this work and then may go for a swinging mooring later on.

I don't really want to put her into a yard to have the work done, I would rather use independent freelance people and project manage it myself.

Any recommendations where I could find people who could help with the GRP, checking rigging, engine servicing, fitting new fuel tank etc.? I'm happy to pay a good daily rate for the right person(s)?

Also where would be a good place to keep her whilst the work is going on? I imagine some marinas might object to things like sanding dust blowing over the pontoons etc., what's the form here?

Thank you!

Thornham marina is friendly, efficient, and don't seem to mind us working on our boats,. There is a marine engineer on site and a rigger. No comnnectin other than as a satisfied customer.

Emsworth yacht harbour is also worth looking at, and has more water than thornham at low tide :-)

It depends on daft of the boat, both Emsworth and Thorney (which I think is drying) would be fine for shallow draft. I would suggest Northney marina if draft stops you going into one of the other places. Chris Murch will do an excellent job of the gel coat and fuel tank and there is a rigger there, Steve ???? Cant remember his name, Chris will know him. I have used both and highly recommend them.

A D Marine are the people I am going to try to check over my engine for the first time in case I miss anything and beacausei t has been standing for over a year!

Hayling Island repairers are meant to be good for GRP repairs but not the cheapest, not sure who else there is on the engine and GRP repair front. I tried WB Marine think he was called but won't be using again.
