Hello,

I am looking for recommendations for a medium-term berth in the Flushing (Vlissingen) / Westerschelde area of the Netherlands. I want to be able to leave my Victoria 34 there for 4-6 weeks as a stopover on the way to the Baltic.

From there we intend to take either an inland, mast-up route as far as the German border or go outside along the coast depending upon weather conditions and how we feel at the time.

I would appreciate any suggestion of suitable berths.

Alan.

Kats marina in the Osterschelde is EXCELLENT. Extremely friendly and helpful plus a great restaurant and you can hire bicycles to go into Kortgene for shopping/eating (at least three good restaurants - try Overstag if you can get in). If you go in through Vlissingen you can go up the canal to Veere, through the Versemeer and lock into the Osterchelde with Kats just 3nm north. Alternatively, go in through the Rompotsluis, under the Zeeland bridge and head 2nm south to Kats. We lewft our boat there over winter before heading north the following summer and then did the same a year later on the return trip.

If you are going mast up route, check that you have the correct times for bridge openings etc, the english pilot books for Holland were out of date last season!
if you stop in Vlissingen the Marina on the canal (cant remember name) would be ok for 2-3 weeks, station just up road 15mins walk, fly cheaply to Rotterdam from Stansted and train it to Vlissingen, hour or so.

I assume that you want to leave the boat for a couple of weeks, so the touristic vqlue of the town is secondary ?

In order of preference (space available, price, easy access to international transport, protection of port - both weather and evil people)
1. So as mentioned: Breskens. From there, take the pedestrian ferry to Flushing, for access to the ferry and the railway station in the ferry port.
2. Middelburg: nice town, port protected from weather but in the middle of town, marina close to railway station
4. Terneuzen: bus to Vlissingen, through Westerschelde tunnel.
The ports on the Veerse Meer and Oosterschelde are not easily accessible to public transport, excl. bus.

99. Vlissingen: both marina's are cramped, with a long waiting list. Also, they are quite a walk away from the nearest public transport (excluding busses).
