Can anyone recommend/suggest a yacht design which meets the following requirements:
a)reasonably stiff, good sailing ability for coastal waters
b) shallow draft under motor (c.2'6"), and capable of beaching/drying out
c)c.25'-27'
d)capable of doing 14kts under motor with 2 adults
e)light interior with seperate heads and sleeps 4
f)manufactured within last 8 years
g) budget - to c.£25k

Note: She doesn't need to be trailerable, so weight isn't an issue.

I realise that with the motoring requirement, she'll be a compromise, and maybe unachievable, but that can't be helped. I'm already aware of the MacGregor 26 and Odin 820 (and the heated debates about the seaworthiness of such lightweights) so I'm looking for what others to consider.

I've sailed dinghies for 30 years and yachts for 8 years, currently an elderly Moody 30, so this will be a real change!

Thanks
Ian

I have heard of a prout catamaran that was capable of 13 knots under power, but the engines to achieve this must have had an impact on sailing performance. Worth checking some of the newer cat designs + larger engine as this will give you your shallow draft and offshore capability
Recommend you check Richard Woods designs (he sometimes posts on scuttlebut)

I don't believe such a boat exists.

The only sailing boats that can achieve 14kts under engine are designs like the Mac26 - which falls down on requirement (a).

>>To motor at 14 knots you will need a boat 289 feet long unless it is capable of planing

not so, multihulls can achieve such speeds without planing.

a dragonfly for example is capable of sailing at 18 knots and could achieve 14 under power if you give it a big enough engine.

my own boat dispalces 5.5 tons and, with 56hp can achieve 11 knots. using a standard multihull design formula, with a waterline length of 25ft & 2 tons displacement you need 40hp to achieve 14 knots
