Hi There
We are currently based in North Wales but need a change. Planning to cruise down the Welsh coast to Devon/Cornwall (although could be convinced to try North to Scotland or up a river).
Looking for somewhere friendly for extended stay/relocation. Preferably secluded (good walks for dog) but with a friendly pub or two.
The fewer rules/regulations the better!
Would be nice to have a few other liveaboards about (anyone with kids!?)
Any votes/tips/recommendations!?
Thanks,
Selina

Try Instow on the N coast of Devon. Excellent atmosphere, decent drying out and afloat moorings. Walks, and talks everywhere.

Thanks!
One other consideration is that whilst my partner is planning a permenant move, I will be commuting for weekends from Liverpool, so the nearer driving distance the better!
Will definetely be visiting Devon this summer though so will check it out.

Aberystwyth (Ceredigion - not pembrokeshire). The Marina is next to long dog walking beach. Plenty of pubs and restaurants.
Also Aberaeron, a few miles south - drying harbour as is Newquay (Welsh one not the Cornish one) . Local Sailing Club seem a friendly bunch.

Small bilge keeler like yours might also enjoy Solva (Pembrokeshire).

Solva harbour near St Davids. Very friendly and helpful harbourmaster Andrew. 3 great pubs with food. Facilities on the quay basic but clean and superb sailing and walking around the bay.

I would apply. You never know.

I've often been told there's a waiting list - in one case two years, but they've found me a place much sooner than expected.

I believe Aberystwyth has just added some new berths in the Marina. Luck (or something) often seems to play a part.

Fishguard (old Harbour ) might be another possibility.

If you don't ask you won't get.

I'd just apply where ever you think might suit and see what comes up. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They're apparently restoring part of Kidwelly for liesure use.

If you click on the 'complete list' link on the left of the page, and then click on the port name, it often produces contact details for the harbour authorities. Many of the quieter harbours (you say you're looking for seclusion) don't necesarily have waiting lists.

Good Luc. Happy Exploring. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Have look at Newport. which is between Fishguard and Cardigan. Just go a bit upstream of paid for moorings for the most idyllic moorings you can get free in the western world. You'll need to lay anchor.

You could easily spend all summer around Pembrokeshire with a different habour/anchorage each week an would still only have seen half of it. Best fuel and water point - Neyland marina, all tide pontoon but also ot Milford although you have to lock in. Milford is also good for supermarket - Tesco on the habour front.
