I've been quoted £900 incl to install thetube and to mount the thruster on top of it. (I will supply the key parts and install the rest - also doing some other work at the same time).

At an estimated £50 per hour, that implies 18 man-hours to do the job - which seems to be quite long. Is that reasonable / normal for such an install?

Any recommendations for who else I can ask for a quote?

Boat is on Hamble at the moment and looking to get it done in the next 3-4 weeks, ideally.

When the thruster was installed in my Bayliner the boat was lifted Sat am and back in the water Sun pm. I would think that there was about 10-12 man hours of work with a certain amount of waiting time for stuff to go off/dry.

edit: forgot to mention mine was more a DIY install. I would expect someone who does it all the time to be a good deal quicker.

I've just had the same task performed by my local boatyard at Portishead. I haven't had the final bill yet but I was quoted £750 to £800 (no doubt it will be £800 then).

So to answer your question, the quote is normal (but not necessarily reasonable).

Neale; to have done the job over a weekend makes me think that some steps were missed out. For instance, in my case, two coats of 'gelcoat' were used for the thruster tube, each coat taking a couple of days to cure properly (in cold weather), I've still yet to prime and antifoul it.
