My Samsung tablet is wifi only but I want to use it on my boat.

A dongle for my old laptop worked very well but but my tablet is a fraction of the weight and the battery lasts far longer.

3 or 4G? Sailing around Cornwall so which provider offers best coverage?

I have searched on the forum pages and also seem to remember a suggestion about a device (not really a mifi) which connected to the internet???

if your not fussed about hi speed internet we have one of these 3G widgets. A EE sim card with 6Gb is about £16 on Amazon and last 90 days.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-E53...1?ie=UTF8&qid=1530047798&sr=8-1&keywords=mifi

We also have a 5m usb lead extension for putting the widget in a plastic bag and clipping it to the boom if the coverage is a bit iffy.

If you want 4G then a for a bit more they are also available.

EE has the best coverage in and around Cornwall. That's why we use them. We use our iPhones as wifi hotspots but have also used mifi like mariadz and Pete in the past. Huawei ones are good and I've also used an Alcatel one. A waterproof bag to hoist it up the mast is also useful when you're finding it difficult to get a good signal. The batteries on the mifi we used tend to last about 4-5 hours so whilst a long USB lead is useful it's not essential.

We have use a My Three Mobile Hotspot (Mifi) for the last 4 years both afloat, ashore and overseas (Feels Like Home).

Currently, as a loyal customer, we pay £15 per month for 20GBs but this is limited to 12GBs overseas.

I am using it now and it does all we want including supporting real-time gaming and watching TV.

Hope this helps.

Nortada, thanks,

I like 3. I should have said that I really want a rolling contract as I won't be using it every month.

We had a monthly rolling contract with Three for 2 years but given our circumstances, when Feels Like Home and cheaper roaming can along, we converted to an annual contract.

It is stated that Feels Like Home will be withdrawn after 120 days contiguous overseas but ours and others experience conforms this isn’t the case.
