I have used Ben Sutcliffe-Davis who is based in South Wales but he does travel as far as Tewkesbury so I would have thought he would do Upton as well.

He's certainly not the cheapest but he is very thorough and an asset if you are buying. The downside is that if you also want to use the survey for insurance purposes you can end up doing a fair amount of work because the insurers typically want a surveyor's recommendations carried out as a condition of cover. If I used him again I would make sure I explained that I wanted two versions of his report! One a very basic one for insurance purposes only.

Thank you everybody, I now have the survey booked.
If that goes well, will be moving it down to Portishead from upton on severn.
has anyone done this trip before? if so, how long does it take?
any problems on the way. thanks in advance. jim

Hi Jim nice looking boat. When are you thinking of moving her ? If you are moving this year you will need to consider that the two locks on the way to Gloucester docks and the swing bridges on the Sharpness canal are now working winter hours. It may be worth splitting the whole journey over two days ? I would aim to do Upton to Sharpness in day 1 and then lock out at sharpness the following day for the trip to Portishead. Most important thing is to plan the tide and weather. I have done this trip a few times and look to get out of Sharpness just at high tide and travel down with the ebb. Don't forget you have to book the sharpness lock in advance.

Hi tony.
Thanks for that info. Will be moving the boat down within the next couple of weeks, hopefully.
If the survey goes well. Jim
