Hi all - we're buying a boat that's currently moored in Hammamet, Tunisia, and will need to find some good local suppliers & tradesmen.
If you're able to recommend anyone in Hammamet for these items below, it'd be a great help.

- Outboards (10-15hp)
- Zodiac ribs
- Sailmakers
- Canopy makers/fitters

Thanks loads for your help :)

I have no hesitation in recommending to you two people

Mick Turner a Brit who has been in Port Yasmine Hammamet for 6 years or so and is an excellent, comscientious engineer and has done a lot of varied work for me varying from engine work (diesel and outboard) to building and fitting a holding tank to designing and building extra drawers and cupboards.

I have also had a hatch covers, spray hood and cockpit tent made by Adele, a Tunisian sailmaker with racing experience.

Suggest you contact Mick at www.mtmarineservices.com He willl be able to give you Adele's contact details

Hi
Try Duncan & Kim they run Yacht Services Tuinisia
http://www.ys-tunisia.com/
They mainly deal with gin palaces entering Tunisia but were a great help to us in our time in Yasmine and became good friends. Our yacht is only 43ft long SV shapeshifter the price was very fair I would use them again any time.
When there hire a car and have a good look around.
Cheers
Colin

I have also been recommended and seen the canvas service / work of Adel Zahrouni which he performed for a friend's Jongert 2400. Here is his contact information:

Latest canvas worker recommendations, availability of materials, Hammamet or Monastir

I hope it's OK to resurrect this useful thread, as I'm going to Tunisia in January / February and hope to have a cockpit tent/bimini made to fit on a frame just fitted in Sardinia (so I need canvas work but not metalwork). One question I have is whether I can rely on all necessary materials being available to local canvas workers, such as decent fabric, fasteners, zips etc. Also I saw on Noonsite that the sailmaker in Monastir comes highly recommended for this kind of job, so any views of which supplier to go for regarding quality, price, speed, ease of dealing with, reliability, etc. would be most welcome. BTW My boat is small, only 27 feet, which may also be a consideration in the choice.

Adele in Hammamet (mentioned earlier in this thread) uses Sunbrella imported via France and which carries a 10 year guarantee. Its the only fabric I know of that is widely used. He carries a stock of all the fastenings, zips etc that you would need as well.

I was very happy with the quality, service and price and would do it again. SWMBO is not easily pleased and was also impressed with the quality too.

Hope that helps
