I have some faulty wiring on the leg lift of my AQ270 outdrive.
I'd like to replace it, rather than rewire as it's old and the wiring looks tatty.
I've been told that "any old solenoid" will fit, doesn't need to be a Penta one, can anyone recommend a replacement?

No replies yet!

Bump before it falls off the bottom of the page.

Two relays aren't there ? One for up and one for down ? Or is it a hydraulic system?

I'd think automotive relays sufficiently rated for the motor current would do the trick.

I'm holding a 12V solenoid in my hand which is rated at 40amps continuous which is from Maplin. Should be easy to get but if you have problems PM me and you can have this one....free!.

I think you will find that the Volvo parts from Keypart are under a tenner anyway!

Thanks very much all, been really banging my head against the wall with this one!

Have been in contact with Volvo, apparently there are two systems in use, and without the engine number, it's difficult to source the correct one.
VicS, there are two, to confound the problem I've been hunting the parts diagrams for a solenoid, when it is two separate relays... I'd been assuming it was just this magical component that did both up and down.

SHUG, thank you for your very kind offer, if these things are indeed just relays, I may as well just rewire them as they're probably no more likely to fail due to age than the rest of the system?
If I do get stuck though, I'll certainly send a pm, thank you.

Now I have the parts diagrams from Volvo, it is far easier to see exactly what's going on.
I'll see if I can get to it tomorrow to see how accessible the wiring is, there's very little room behind the engine.
Assuming they're accessible, I'll test them tomorrow and replace if there are any issues.
