I had very good service from McMurdo when trying to re-register a USA EPIRB. It turned out that it was subject to a recall, and they gave me a Smartfind. I particularly like the AIS feature - it means you're likely to get help quickly from another boat in our crowded waters. However, I'm delighted to say I've never had to used one. My boat was coded for charter so had to have an EPIRB, but I think a PLB is more useful, especially if you're sailing singe- or short-handed, where the danger is you going overboard rather than the boat sinking. They're also a lot cheaper.
