The time has come when we need to get some new standing rigging and a new genoa. Can anyone recommend good services in the Eastern Med? Thinking about Marmaris at the moment but we are flexible!

I had some warranty work done by a guy called Alper from 'Silver Marine' in Marmaris. Excellent knowledge and workmanship. The cost was covered by 3rd party so can't comment how reasonable this was.

There are two big sail lofts in Marmaris, Elvstrom and UK Halsey, and many small ones including North and Doyle repair lofts. Uk Halsey also do rigging. In my opinion the best rigging outfit is M2 Rigging but they may be a bit pricey. There are many others riggers. The range of yachting services available in Marmaris is excellent in my view. If you do go there listen to the cruisers net (every day 9am, forgot the channel) and ask for a recommendation.

Sails and rigging in Marmaris

Our vote would go to UK Halsey without hesitation. We use them for our charter fleet and we KNOW they know what they are doing. Alper is the rigger, based at UKH but commercially separate.

Some cruising friends have just bought a whole suit of laminates from them and re-rigging also. He did contact M2, but decided on UKH when they didn't understand his requirement for a storm trysail track on the mast.

I would recommend a visit to their loft (5th largest in Europe), talk to them, and you'll get a very good feeling. Unlike many services in Turkey, these guys don't just know how, they know why as well.

Canan (pronounced Janan) spent years in Australasia and speaks perfect, understandable English. The other guys more than get by.

From 1st hand experience as of Nov 2012, having done extensive research of all available services in the area, we would recommend UK sails in Marmaris.
As always it is entirely a personal opinion and may or may not suit your requirement.
(One man's meat is another man's poison) So contact all and get quotes, go see all the facilities, ask all the relevant questions and then make your choice.
Whether your choice be based on cost or quality you will surly find something to suit in Marmaris.
By the way you can see your sail being made at UK sails and give your preferences at various stages of work.
No connection with any company just passing on some local knowledge.
Person to speak to at UK sails is Baris.
Good Luck

Hey guys, you can choose m2 yachting for best rigging in Marmaris below you can find a reference that they sent to me and we were ver glad to have a service from them.

"M2 - BEST SERVICE IN MEDITERRANIAN SEA!"

I tested a lot with my boat ABIGAIL, a Nicholson 48 built in 1979. Never had so phantastic support like here.

I moved my boat from Italy, where I bought her in 2001 to Croatia (terrible support), 2 years later to Corfu (some Englishman there know how to service a Perkins built in the seventies) and afterwards to Marmaris.

It is simply more pleasure, to have a machine, running all the time, to have a well cleaned boat, when arrived and to know, the M2 team is available in a view hours allover the Turkish Riviera coast, when something exidently breaks.

My only wish is, nothing changes the next years......
