recommend a good book/resource to learn splicing

I was given a book for Christmas about splicing and a more useless waste of tress you would be hard put to find. Full of tiny sketchy drawings and useless wooly instructions.

Can anyone recommend a good book with clear diagrams and precise instructions. I realise there are some good videos but really a printed instruction is better when doing something step by step and doesnt need batteries or an internet connection.

I dont want to do anything fancy - just the basics

I'd stay with a splice if I was you, two good books for you all:
The Splicing Handbook ISBN: 0-7136-6846-6
The Rigging Handbook ISBN: 9780713669183 This is best one if your into working ropework, bends hitches and general rigging stuff, with some nice projects as well.
