laptop 12volt supply - Google Shopping

I used to have a good, reliable device but it has gone missing.

I need to run my lappy from 12 volts again.

Do you know a supplier of a decent but not £50plus device?

The reason I don't like the look of this one is because it surely relies upon a simple dc to dc buck converter or even worse an LM3........ wtaever they are called in efficient thing and it only applies to my current laptop.

The one I used to have had multiple tips and a big brick like object that did the voltage magic ......... and we all know that bigger is better and it was silver in colour, so it must have been good !!!

When I built my boat computer I used an Amperor power supply to run both monitor and CPU. Its a good make but I see that the current prices are way higher than I paid, so you are probably most likely to find one with the correct voltage and power rating on e-bay. I did buy one like this 80W Universal Laptop Auto Car Charger Adapter 12V Fit For DELL HP TOSHIBA SONY | eBay and used it on the boat when I took a laptop, and it worked OK. It was cheap and looked it but a test with a voltmeter showed a fairly accurate and stable voltage. Just make sure its powerful enough. My laptop charger was 65 watts, and well within the claimed 80 watt capacity.

I bought a cheap inverter for this purpose. 500w and about £20 from memory.

Only uses a tiny bit of the house battery capacity so not worried about it being a little inefficient.

Works perfectly

What you're after is a laptop powered by USB-C power delivery / PD.

Both my personal laptop (MacBook Air M1) and work laptop (Dell Latitude 5310) use this method of charging and are both less than a year old, but both over the £1k mark. The MacBook pulls 45w and the Dell really wants 65w for fast charge but will work fine on the lower 45w charger.

These cab both be powered from the cigarette socket in both my campervan and on the boat. Note that these do not pull the usual 5v/10w of old/normal usb so need to check the wiring betwixt cigarette socket and battery is capable enough of providing enough juice.

Don't know what to recommend but I've just burnt out one (literally) like that on Lenovo Carbon X1. Now, like you, looking for a decent replacement.
