Now that the family house is likely to be sold, it was time to look again at the two teak seats that have been in the garden since they were taken off my grandfathers Rampart 45 prior to her being taken to the Dunkirk beaches from which, sadly, she never returned.
I was surprised that 95% of the brass screws came out without breaking off and that they were as good as new with no sign of dezincification after more than 75 years. Presumably we had better quality brass in those days.So now I have some 75year old prime teak boards 8ft long x 18inches wide and 7/8 inch thick. Can't wait to get them into my workshop!

The screws sound as though they may be Bronze.
Teak like that is well worth looking after.
I have some from old ICI lab bench worktops that is stacked and stored for future use.
Shame about your grandfathers Rampart 45 being taken to the Dunkirk beaches from which, sadly, she never returned.

Ditto, from a university lab refurb I once managed. I have one board 4m long, 900mm wide and 30mm thick. It's made up of three T&G planks but the joints are so good that you are hard pressed to tell it's not one piece.

Not teak but my grandma had a nice mahogany writing bureau which I was thinking of auctioning probably for about £50 plus but in the end I took it apart for the nice pieces of mahogany!
