Just recieved primary winch drums from "Neptune Plating" after rechroming, excellent job if any one is looking to have this done. Web site, www.eicgroup.co.uk or neptune@eicgroup.co.uk
Hi, the drums are Lewmar 40s, yes they preserved the "rough bit", cost was £60 for the 2 plus carriage, the carriage from here was a lot, but to return they charged 10, which was camparitivly cheap!
I'd give them a few months in the open before making a judgement on the quality.
Chrome looks great, but doesn't fair well if applied too thinly.
Let us know how they stand up.
You are absolutly correct aboiut reserving judgment on re-chromed fittings until they have seen some weathering..
I had a whole bunch of stuff done last winter by a reputable company and I know that they had a lot of difficulty getting the plating to 'take' on some 1ft square engine room louvres.
Anyway looking at them I notice that after only 2 months the chrome is starting to blister...
I havn't got back to them yet.. and hope that the will either refund me for the louvres or have another go...To bloomin' expensive just to forget about.
According to Lewmar, Neptune Plating are the only company they recommend - so maybe that counts for something. Still, I'd like to know if anyone else has used them & how they've stood up over time as I've got two 44STs & three 16s that need doing.
Did you specify "bright" chroming or "hard" chroming? - there is a big difference.

According to the web site Neptune do bright chroming which is only decorative and quite thin compared to hard chroming which is up to 100 times thicker and very hard wearing - time wil tell how good a job they actually did......

I had six winches rechromed for £45 by Turnbull (Electro Platers) Ltd in Ashington. The problem has been to maintain or renew the rough area on the barrel. They have done a good quality job for me and have been on the boat for a year without signs of deterioration.
Ah ok Cliff, anyway they are 60 quid better than they were, if they last a few years it will do me anyway, interesting tho, wonder what the hard chroming would cost in comparison? Bill.
