I have got a set of 3 cordless phones. The original batteries are AAA 1.2v 750mAh and the one handset with those in shows full charge. In the other two i tried upgrading to 1000mAh but even after 15hrs charging the phones are displaying flat. Any idea why?

Don't know why but I've found exactly the same. However, I've ignored it and the phone continues to work just fine.

Yeah, because they still work but just a pain not knowing if it's going to pack up half way through an important call.

are they the same type? NiCd, NiMH and Li batteries all have different voltages so would show different charge states.

Failing that, if the battery IS the same type, and the same size, but higher capacity, then I guess something inside is different - it MUST be to get the higher capacity - which results in a slightly lower voltage. I guess you can trade voltage with mAH to an extent (lower voltage = higher mAH for same size)

This is a boring question.

Just thought you'd like to know.

No it's not!

I was wondering exactly the same thing and I've searched and searched on the web and can't find a "Practical Phone Owner" forum!

Try charging them on a stand alone external charger first. Some appliances can't deal with totally flat batteries.

[/ QUOTE ] Definitely worth a try, even put them though several charge and discharge cycles.

A dodgy set of batteries is also a possibility. I recently had some NIMH AAs which would not charge in a negative delta V controlled charger.

Ah ken "boring is to Boring is to follow ". or some other Literary crap... lol

I have a couple of issues cos I KNOW the moguls of the world famous battery brands follow this..

First, ya battery producing gits... whats all this NiMh crap!.. YES ITS GOOD, BUT IT AONY GOT SHELF LIFE.. whats the bleeding good of having the nicey pricey olympus digi slr with TWO batteries when, by the time you come to actually USE the second battery, its FLAT.. NiMh DONT hold charge...the buggeroonies didn´t tell me that in the email phishing test... barstard I say..

the electricity will fall out

[/ QUOTE ] Perhaps you should connect the two ends together so that the electrickery just goes round and round. Just like you do to magnets to stop the magnetism escaping! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had the same problem with some D cells. 15 hours later and they were still dead.
Remembered a trick from an electronics tech pal. Give the flat cells a jab of 12 volts for a couple of seconds (off a 12v charger) and put them back in the proper charger.
It worked.

Another trick learned from the fora here. Knackered laptop battery? Pop it in the feezer overnight, then let it thaw for 24hrs. Then charge as normal. Worked a treat. Like new!

Jimboaw,

I'm now unable to find the thread.
I've used the (useless) "search" function to death and am drawing a blank
Perhaps Dan the man has removed it along with all those others in the last few days....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you know how to use google to search the fora perhaps you'll have better luck.
